The Unseen Project
This project, "The Unseen: Children with Severe Disabilities and Their Families," aims to document and share the daily lives and struggles of families with children with life-limiting disabilities in the Atlanta area. By capturing and narrating their stories, the project seeks to raise public awareness, provide cherished memories for the families, and support nonprofits like Life House Atlanta. The ultimate goal is to make these often overlooked lives visible, fostering understanding and empathy while driving positive change in the community.
The Reed Family
Mary and Catherine
Visiting the home of the Reed family was an absolute privilege. Mary Cota Reed is a true supermom. Despite being deaf, her ability to care for her daughter Catherine is extraordinary. In fact, I witnessed firsthand the exceptional care she provides to Catherine. I spent several hours at their home, photographing their daily activities. Together, they engaged in various routines, from exploring the backyard and touching plants, to swinging on a custom-built swing, playing soccer indoors, and enjoying the piano. I also captured moments of feeding time, checking vitals, and preparing medications and meals for Catherine.
Meeting Catherine, an 8-year-old angel with cerebral palsy, was an honor. Her smiles and vibrant personality warmed my heart. You can sense the presence of an angel when you’re with one, and I certainly felt that with Mary and Catherine. Thank you for welcoming me into your home.
